AD Sets NFL Rushing Record

Thanks to Adrian “All Day” Peterson, the Vikes beat the Chargers 35-17 at the Metrodome. AD set the NFL single game rushing record today gaining 296 yards and scoring three touchdowns! He could have had 325 and two more touchdowns!

Chargers stud back, LT only had 40 yards on 16 carries. He did have a touchdown.

That pretty much is the story of the game. The Vikes ran for 378 yards (a franchise record) and shut down LT and the Chargers offense.

Even without Antoine Winfield (bad hammy), the Vikes D rose to the occasion. They pressured Phillip Rivers all game long and stopped LT. Chad Greenway recovered a fumble and Charles Gordon picked off Rivers.

Right before half, the Vikes tried a 58 yard field goal that was about a yard short. Problem was that Chargers defensive back, Antonio Cromartie, ran it back for a 109 yard touchdown (an NFL record).

In the second half the Vikes outscored San Diego 28-3.

GAME NOTES
Tarvaris Jackson was hit late (and not called) towards the end of the first half. He left the field with a head/neck injury. Brooks Bollinger took over. Bollinger was 7 of 10 for 95 yards including a 40 yard touchdown to Sidney Rice.

Both AD and Chester Taylor fumbled the ball in the red zone.

Peterson is the first player in NFL history to have two 200 yards games (Chargers & Bears) in their rookie season.

Again, LT’s line was 16 carries for 40 yards and one touchdown. AD’s line was 30 carries for 296 yards and three touchdowns. Did I mention his 296 is an NFL record?

NEWT’S GAME BALLS

REACTION
Wow, what a game. I honestly love Adrian Peterson. I wore my #28 Peterson jersey with pride today. That kid is unbelievable. I know it’s early, but he could be the BEST running back EVER. Yes, EVER. What a nice draft pick.

At 3-5, the season is not technically over, but in reality, it is. The Packers and Lions are on fire so winning the division would be tough.

I would start Bollinger for the rest of the year and keep giving the ball to Peterson. If the Vikes could win two or three more in a row, who knows. Maybe we could dream of the playoffs.
