The Vikes still have no back-up plan for Tarvaris Jackson, unless you count Brooks Bollinger. Also, the Vikes still have no plans for a much needed pass rusher, but they are looking at some “role player” guys.Linebacker, Derrick Pope (pictured) is one of three players the Vikes are in talks with. Pope is a great special teams player and would add depth to the linebacker position. With Dontarrious Thomas signing with San Francisco, Heath Farwell (after he signs his tender) will be the Vikes main backup at linebacker.
Defensive lineman, Ellis Wyms is also talking with the Vikes. Wyms would battle to be the primary backup to the Williams Brothers at defensive tackle. Spencer Johnson is gone, thus creating a need.
Cornerback, Nate Jones also spoke with the Vikings. Jones would likely battle for the dime back position. He has been a Dallas Cowboy for his first four years in the NFL.
I can’t say I care too much either way, I think Pope and Wyms would be good to get for depth, but I won’t be too crushed if neither of them sign with the Vikes.
I just hope that Chilly and Zygi have a plan for quarterback and defensive end, two rather important positions.
As a total side note, Bernard Berrian will wear number 87.
UPDATE: The Vikes has signed LB Derrick Pope
