Thanks to fumbles by Vinsanthe Shiancoe (TE), Maurice Hicks (RB), Albert Young (RB) and John Booty (QB), the Vikes got drilled out by the Seahawks 34-17 at Metrodome in the Vikes first Preseason game.It wasn’t all sour grapes, but it was not a good game overall for the Vikes. Although both Pat Williams and Madieu Williams sat out the game, the Seahawks drove 74 yards on their first drive for a touchdown. Cedric Griffin got beat on a 18 yard pass.
On the Vikes first drive, Tarvaris Jackson had a couple of nice completions before Shiancoe fumbled the ball away. That led to a Seahawks field goal. That would be it for the Vikes staring defense.
Jackson ended up going 8-11 for 118 yards including a six yard touchdown pass to Thomas Tapeh (FB) on the Vikes second drive. T-Jack looked sharp as the Vikes passed the majority of the first half. Bernard Berrian caught two balls for 43 yards and clearly appears to be the Vikes number one receiver.
On the Vikes third drive, Sidney Rice drew a pass interference call in the end zone which led to a Chester Taylor one yard touchdown. The sad news is that it took Taylor three tries from the one to get in. AD would have scored on first down I bet.
Adrian “Purple Jesus” Peterson basically did nothing. He was in for a few plays, but never even got the ball. This is a GREAT decision by Childress. Why get AD hit in the Preseason? Childress had a great game plan for the Vikes first string offense.
Besides the bad fumbles, the other downers of the night for the Vikes was that linebacker/special team standout, Heath Farwell was carted off the field. Although not confirmed, I bet it is an ACL injury. Tough blow for Minnesota if so. Farwell is a stud on Special Teams. Safety, Michael Boulware also was injured tonight.
Getting beat 34-17 is never good, but the Vikes do have some things that they can be proud of. That being said, I’m guessing the post game talk from Chilly wasn’t a pleasant one.
Oh yeah as if you didn’t know, Brett Favre is a New York Jet. Weird!
Next Saturday the Vikes visit the Ravens in Baltimore for Preseason game two.
NEWT’S GAME BALLS
Offense – Tarvaris Jackson
Defense – Antoine Winfield
Special Teams – Darius Reynaud
